Conservation

Conservation and preservation are terms we apply to protecting either the information in archives or the physical item itself for as long as it is needed. Strictly, conservation is repairing damaged items, while preservation is protecting them from damage. We preserve documents by packaging records for storage, constructing protective wrappings, microfilming, and monitoring the environmental conditions in the strongrooms.

Document prior to conservation

We undertake conservation work for the Record Office and for the local studies collections in Berkshire libraries. We can undertake paper, parchment and seal repair. We can also advise on the preparation, mounting and installation of documents for display.
