World War 1

Guide to sources

Berkshire Record Office holds various records which document the local impact of World War 1. These include arrangements for civil defence, guarding bridges, food control and agricultural work. There are also lists of those who served overseas, together with some private records that either detail life at the front or changes required back home as a result of the war. Finally there are some records of local remembrance memorials.
