Through Their Eyes : a local perspective on the Second World War

Friday Apr 30th, 2021 | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Second World War brought many changes to domestic life.  And Berkshire’s communities had to adjust.

Emergency operations began.  Family groups were split.  There were new instructions and routines to be followed.

Life did not feel normal but it would eventually return so.  And the celebration of VE Day, on 8 May 1945, was the beginning of that.

To mark the 75th anniversary of that day we have put together an online exhibition.

This exhibition explores how the people of Berkshire prepared for conflict, adapted to unimaginable change and finally celebrated peace on VE Day.

We hope to show you something of Berkshire life during the Second World War and also how the county marked the War’s end.

The exhibition is now live! Just click on the link to find out more: Through Their Eyes online exhibition
